Description
This medicine sometimes reproduces certain effects of menopause. It can therefore cause hot flashes and/or headaches. But it has no contraceptive effect .
Given the possible effects of this medication on the uterus, regular gynecological monitoring, at least annually, is necessary; report any abnormal genital bleeding to your doctor without delay.
Special monitoring is recommended in cases of significant excess triglycerides in the blood, history of phlebitis or pulmonary embolism .
Athlete: This medication contains a substance prohibited during competitions and training by the World Anti-Doping Agency. Remember to keep your doctor informed of your sports practice (discipline, level).
Driver: This medication may cause visual disturbances.
Interactions of the drug NOLVADEX with other substances
This medicine may interact with medicines containing bupropion, duloxetine, fluoxetine, paroxetine, quinidine or terbinafine: risk of reduced effectiveness of tamoxifen. It is recommended to avoid their use during treatment.
Tell your doctor if you are also taking oral anticoagulants .
Fertility, pregnancy and breastfeeding
Pregnancy:
Due to a malformative effect observed in animals, this medicine is contraindicated in pregnant women. In non-menopausal women, effective contraception is necessary throughout treatment and up to 9 months after stopping treatment, but oral contraceptives (pill) containing estrogens cannot be used.
Breastfeeding:
Breastfeeding is contraindicated (and usually impossible) during treatment.
Instructions for use and dosage of the drug NOLVADEX
The tablets should be taken with a glass of water, during or outside of meals.
Usual dosage:
- Adults over 18 years old : 20 to 40 mg per day, in 1 or 2 doses.
Advice
This medicine is not suitable for treating all breast cancers . It will be more effective if your tumor has estrogen receptors. The search for these receptors is carried out by analyzing a sample of the tumor .
Possible side effects of NOLVADEX medicine
Hot flashes, genital itching, white discharge.
Abnormal development of the endometrium, which may result in intermittent bleeding (see Caution).
Thromboembolic accident (phlebitis, pulmonary embolism ).
Vision problems.
Nausea.
Skin rash, allergic reaction, headache, hair loss.
Abnormal blood count, increased transaminases .
Rarely: breast pain, water retention, increased triglycerides, pancreatitis.
In addition, in pre-menopausal women: irregular cycles, ovarian cysts , sometimes cessation of periods.
